The holidays are a great time of year, stressful but great! You will likely be doing more cooking, having more company and using your plumbing a lot more. If you are having any plumbing issues right now, let us come out and take a look before the holidays are upon you.

The holidays mean that your plumbing is going to work harder. More guests mean more flushing, more showers and more use of the garbage disposal. If you are having some minor problems now, you can expect that they will get worse with the more wear and tear. The time to address any plumbing issues is before the holidays arrive.

There are some steps that you can take that will help to prevent any holiday plumbing issues:

  1. Your garbage disposal will be doing double duty with all the cooking and all the scraps that are going into the disposal. Be kind to your disposal by not putting any bones, hard shells from nuts or pits from stone fruits down the disposal. Avoid a high concentration of starchy foods. Throw some ice cubes down the disposal and let it run to help clean up the blades. Always run the cold water down the garbage disposal when you are grinding anything. Never throw grease down the garbage disposal.
  2. Your toilets are about to be assaulted by all the company prepare by having your sewer line cleaned. Be sure to never throw anything down your toilet other than what it is meant for. If you notice your toilet is moving slowly call a professional in before it gets worst.
  3. Be careful with your drains. It does not take a lot to wind up with a clog. Do not use over the counter drain cleaners, they can be dangerous and cause damage to your pipes.
  4. Be sure that you know where your shut off valves are before the holidays roll around, just in case.

Plumbing issues rarely resolve themselves. If you have an issue call us before it becomes a problem. Don’t wait, it is best to address any problems now before they become huge problems. It is less expensive to take care of any issues right away than it is to wait. It will only get worse and you do not want to have to deal with any plumbing issues once your guests arrive.
